Delving deeper into wildfires topics and participating more actively in forest service activities

During the time I have been at the internship working on the issue of wildfires, I have acquired a great deal of knowledge about this issue in Puerto Rico. It is during this last month where I have had the opportunity to meet with one of the entities most related to this issue, the firefighters of Puerto Rico.

It is through this last meeting where I was able to learn more specifically what type of material is necessary to present to the communities from the point of view of the experience of forest firefighters. This conversation was very helpful to have a clearer idea about the different topics that are necessary to educate people about wildfires. Likewise, this process was a very beneficial one because it has been fundamental in beginning to establish stronger professional relationships with one of the most important organizations with which I will be collaborating throughout my project as an intern.

Another opportunity that recently presented itself to me was being able to obtain the Interpreter Guide certification under the NAI organization. This experience was very rewarding since I had the opportunity to develop new tools that may be necessary in the material, I am working on about wildfires. Likewise, it was a great learning experience because I was able to interact with other professionals who are working in other organizations on projects that have an environmental impact at the level of Puerto Rico.

One of the activities that I was able to participate in this last month was the planet earth fair at the botanical garden of Rio Piedras. This activity was one of great satisfaction where we had the participation of several schools from different grade levels. This event was one more different than the ones I had been to before because I was able to interact with many students who have different interests in the environmental aspect and the conservation of natural resources. This was of great interest to me, because it opens my interest in being able to educate future generations about these very important topics.

One last activity where I was able to participate was the agroecological fair of the Rio Hondo Forest in the municipality of Mayagüez in Puerto Rico. This activity was a very educational one where the collaboration of the Forest Service was very important for the success of the activity. Likewise, this event was one full of activities with different groups of people, where it was important to provide information about the importance of the organization and the projects it is working on.

All these activities in which I have been involved lately have been very enriching, they have allowed me to continue developing in the field that interests me regarding the conservation of natural resources. In addition to what I learned, they have also helped me to continue interacting with the Forest Service work team, where I have acquired many of the skills they use daily in their respective projects they are working on.
